Saturday Reflections

Last Saturday can just be the defining moment of this year's campaign and maybe even my academic year.  Overwhelming and a mix of affirmation with plenty of realizations.

Meeting all classes for the first time plus a visit from A1 alums, the thoughts and visions were simply fast and meaningful.

1.  There are a lot of times when the givens don't match the picture we painted a long time ago.  Prior to every single year, I knew how the whole thing will turn out and how will the group respond.  The realities of the youth no longer is the same as even two years ago.  Being together to finish a project or even a journey is no longer a motivating thought.  This is the point where I believe the "I"  generation kicks in and the desire to be part of a group disappears.

2.  Some things that were done before may not have made sense then or it felt wrong, went actually right.  After the visit from the A1 alums, it was warming to feel the companionship once more of those people you have shared a lot of moments with.  They are now back, achieved success in their chosen field and ready to share.  And just like that, they reverted to being themselves once again... just like kids.... And looking at them and hearing their stories have been truly validating.  Validating in the sense that the program we have set 10 years ago have truly made its mark.

3.  Some people are really warriors.  Nights with limited sleep and yet up to the task of being in class and working on the campaign.  And at the end of the day, we laugh and shared stories and maybe some light moments before going back to work.  It is really a blessing for me to have great minds like these.

4.  Some people don't know how to conduct themselves.  They know they are on a tight leash and yet stay apathetic towards projects that are important.  When will they realize the importance of positive behavior?  When it is already too late?  A lot do not realize that the distance between being a success and failure is a hairline.  That micro distance determines who are willing to die for that inch.  And it is those who dare who become successful someday.

5.  Commitment, Involvement, Sacrifice, Obedience, and being Pragmatic are true things that will make the youth sucessful one day.  If you don't have any of these, you would just be another head in the sea of youth.

6.  People grow old too fast and become smart too slow.  We make so many mistakes that others don't.  And that is why they are successful and you're not.  It is the one who makes the less mistakes and learns fastest who become good in the world today.

As I journey to another semester with old faces, I have decided to traverse a different route.  Back to the old times when I used to relentlessly pursue attitude and academics.  And if I don't, it would be a lot like letting them down one more time.
